FAQ’s

Why are mileage tax refunds available through HMRC?

HMRC have made a mileage tax refund allowance of 45p per mile, for up to 10,000 miles and 24p every mile on motorcycles and 20p every mile on bikes. It is your employer that should pay you for this. However, some employers have been misinformed and pay less than the amount is recommended or do not pay it at all. Please keep in mind you are not allowed to claim if you travel to a single place of work, you must travel to more than 1 location instructed by your employer.

How much can I claim a refund for?

As a UK taxpayer, you can claim a mileage refund of a maximum of 45p per mile. If you pay tax regularly through PAYE, you can make a mileage refund for the past 4 years.
The amount you can claim exactly depends on the miles you have driven and what your employer has reimbursed you, if anything.

What Do You Charge?

The standard rates we charge for our services are:
Multi Year Mileage tax refund – 30% + VAT of the rebate claimed and a £199.99 + VAT admin fee.

What is considered “business mileage”?

Generally speaking, you are entitled to claim a mileage refund on any travel you make for business purposes as long as you have only been reimbursed partially by your employer amounting to under 45p every mile. You are not allowed to claim for daily commutes to and from your permanent place of work but can claim on any trips related to your daily work tasks.
HMRC determines a ‘permanent workplace’ as somewhere that you spend at least 40% of your working hours.
HMRC defines a ‘temporary workplace’ as somewhere you work for no more than 24 months.

How long does the process take?

Typically, claims are completed within 8-16 weeks. During busy times it may take up to 20+ weeks dependent on HMRC current lead times for processing. Remember we only get paid when you get your refund. We are in regular contact with HMRC after your claim is submitted to ensure we receive your refund as soon as possible.
